New York's most successful revitalization efforts do not depend solely on
grants from government or foundations.  Often a preservation success is
led by highly-motivated individuals whose example inspires others in
government, business and the non-profit sector.

Accomplishments (so far!)

Two successful presentations to the Buffalo Common Council in January 2005.

Buffalo Common Council voted NO on Trathen's logging proposal in January 2005.

Buffalo Common Council voted YES to conduct a proper State Environmental Quality Review.

State Assemblyman Brodsky opened an oversight investigation into the State's actions.

Favorable press and letters to the editor in the Buffalo News and other media.

Generated interest in the historic building preservation community, which is providing direct assistance.

On-line petition directed to the State of New York and City of Buffalo to express the will of the people.

Filed a citizens' suit on September 1, 2005, against the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, the Empire State Development Corp., the NYS Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, the City of Buffalo, and Trathen Land Co.

Our attorney, Richard J. Lippes, Esq., successfully argued our citizen's suit before the NYS Court of Appeals, Fourth Department, and in November 2007 the Court unanimously voted to void the state's sale contract with Trathen Logging, voided the Buffalo Common Council's vote to release the City's reversionary interest in the property, voided the State's Negative Declaration of No Environmental Impact under the proposed sale, and ruled the agencies had failed to comply with New York environmental, historic preservation and public buildings laws.

Conducting an ongoing biodiversity inventory of the land, with wonderful finds - old growth trees, mature and diverse forests, healthy wetlands, ponds, streams, diversity of plants and wildlife.  Even found an abandoned park!

Monitoring the slow progress of the NYS Dormitory Authority's environmental assessment of the two on-site, uncontained hazardous dumps (containing PCB's and other harmful wastes).  The NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation has now required the State to conduct further environmental investigation and install monitoring wells.

Ongoing effort to have the State repair roof leaks observed in September 2009.  Another citizen's suit may be the answer to the state's inaction!  This will not be Richardson Towers Part II.
